HS Timber sawmills are now SURE-EU certified

SURE (Sustainable Resources Verification Scheme) is a new certification system established in Germany in 2020 that ensures compliance with sustainability and greenhouse gas emission reduction requirements for biomass and biofuels.

“Achieving SURE certification for Reci and Rădăuți, alongside Kodersdorf, is important and reflects our commitment to sustainable and responsible practices in the use of biomass for energy production. This standard allows us to implement rigorous control in the biomass supply chain,” says Adrian Lucan, manager of HS Timber's Supply Chain Control and Certification Department in Romania.

SURE certification sets goals and criteria for the sustainable use of energy from renewable sources, including biomass and biofuels, plus it includes strict sustainability criteria such as biodiversity protection, sustainable use of resources and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

The SURE certification is recognised by the European Commission, being used by companies wishing to demonstrate compliance with European Union directives, especially RED II and the new RED III.
