Wood Engineering freshmen visit our sawmill in Reci
Friday, 10 May, our colleagues from the sawmill in Reci received the visit of the first year students from the Wood Engineering Faculty in Brașov. Holzindustrie Schweighofer is a traditional partner of educational institutions and by our open doors policy we welcome each year the future forestry and wood industry professionals.
“I was very impressed by the students, they showed real interest and asked a lot of questions during the visit,” said Adrian Radu, Reci mill manager and host for the visitors.
In the sawmill, the students learned about the entire production flow and, following the visit, ideas for two new projects emerged – two programmes meant to bring the young closer to the realities of the industry and to join theory and practice.
The mill management suggested that some of the workshops in the curriculum could take place in the sawmill itself: „For instance, the wood drying workshop could take place here. Students can see better how wood is dried in industrial conditions, the technology we employ, the programmes we use and actual work set-up,” said Adrian Radu.
Similarly, lab works on tools or sharpening could be performed in the Reci sawmill, since it is the perfect place for following university lectures with real-world examples.
Moreover, during the summer vacation, students can be employed in a practical training programme at Reci. They will manage projects on a given topic, and at the end they will present their results to the company professionals. This way, the students will have the opportunity to get working experience in a state-of-the-art industrial facility, right at the beginning of their university studies.
