Holzindustrie Schweighofer in Romania: 10th EUTR inspection – again with positive results for the company
Within one week Holzindustrie Schweighofer was twice inspected according to the European Timber Regulation (EUTR) – both times with positive results for the company. After the positive control of the sawmill in Sebes at the end of March 2018, another EUTR inspection of the production site in Comanesti, Romania, was completed with good results.
This was the meanwhile 10th EUTR inspection of Holzindustrie Schweighofer mills – all of which confirmed compliance with all legal due diligence obligations. For Michal Proschek-Hauptmann, responsible for sustainability and compliance at Holzindustrie Schweighofer, this is further confirmation of the effectiveness of the company’s security architecture for a sustainable timber supply chain in Romania. Mr. Proschek-Hauptmann underlined that these security measures by far exceed all legal requirements.
The previous EUTR inspections took place in the following mills: Radauti (March and August 2015, March 2017), Sebes (March 2016, March 2017 and March 2018), Comanesti (November and December 2016, March 2018), Reci (November 2016).
In the course of these EUTR inspections, the authorities verify whether companies are doing everything possible to prevent the sale of unlawfully harvested timber. The aim is to ensure that only legally harvested timber is placed on the European Single Market.
