Kodersdorf: Second CHP plant for security of supply

The HS Timber Group has commissioned a second combined heat and power (CHP) plant at the Kodersdorf sawmill.

The two CHP plants replace the previously operated double hot water boiler system with the advantage of now being able to generate electricity as well as heat.

The sawmill will now produce significantly more energy than it consumes. The surplus energy is fed into the public power grid and contributes to supplying private households with green electricity. The electricity fed in by the sawmill in Kodersdorf alone can supply the municipality of Kodersdorf and the neighboring town of Niesky with green electricity.

The electricity is generated by burning bark, which is a by-product of the sawing process and is collected at the plant. The waste heat generated during electricity production is used to dry our high-quality wood products.

With the two CHP plants, the plant in Kodersdorf is able to guarantee continuous year-round operation in electricity production, as the second plant ensures redundancy in the energy supply during planned service shutdowns.
