During two days, Holzindustrie Schweighofer has transparently offered detailed information to representatives of JAFTA (Japan Forestry Technology Association) about the own Due Diligence system, EUTR, Romanian relevant legislation, traceability, Timflow system, the way of functioning of log yards and their importance and about the modern processing technologies at the factory from <link en company production-sites radauti.html>Radauti. The schedule included visit into factory; at a state management unit where was presented how Romanian forests are managed; a harvesting plot; a primary platform where was made a detailed demonstration of how a truck is loaded with logs and also the procedures for issuing a waybill and Timflow procedures; and at the end was visited a log yard of the company where were presented all the specific procedures.
‘’We are simply astonished about how transparently you are trying to be and how communicative Holzindustrie Schweighofer is. This is clearly an asset the company has. The company representatives responded to our questions before we asked’’, said Ryuhei Komatsu.
JAFTA was commissioned by the Forestry Agency of Japan, part of Ministry of Agriculture, Fishery and Forestry to document about the due diligence system that exist in the main timber exporters countries to Japan. The documentation period lasts 4 years (2015-2019), while are visited countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, China, Laos, Peru, Chile, Romania, Estonia, Latvia, Italy, South Africa or Fiji. In order to make a complete picture about the DDS implemented in each country, the representatives are methodically meeting Government authorities, industrial groups, harvesting and processing enterprises and NGOs, including forest certification organizations and environmental organizations and other national organizations. At the end of the documentation period, on the website of the Ministry of Waters, Fisheries and Forest in Japan will be published a detailed report about the best practices, material that will be available to the entire public.
‘’We were impressed about the complexity of the Romanian system but also about what HS is doing extra - the Timflow, the company’s own GPS tracking system. We haven’t seen such a system anywhere else in the world, especially with the photographing feature of the load. Even we have checked transports in Timflow and this is a sign of how open you are’’, added Yuki Nakamura.
For the two JAFTA representatives that were coming from Tokyo, in the few days spent in Romania, people seemed to be friendly, honest, down to earth and the landscape are looking pastoral and untouched.
During the past two years, Holzindustrie Schweighofer has improved and intensified its dialogue with all stakeholders as the company is committed to an open and transparent dialogue with all the interested parties.
